Chichester District Older People’s Partnership

Our Extranet Question Mark

Introducing our Fundraising and Business Development Officers

Our current fundraising support is through Salvia Fundraising, (www.salviafundraising.co.uk) which is a fundraising and training consultancy, based in East Sussex, helping charities and other not-for-profit organisations throughout the UK.

We have two fundraisers from the consultancy – Andrew Devon and Shirley Illsley who are joined on a part-time basis by Bev Tinson our Community Engagement Worker. Bev who is hosted by 4sIGHT, has a firm background in fundraising.
Already they have proved their successful partnership working by securing in excess of £6000 to support a variety of smaller groups, in less than 2 months!

Andrew DevonAndrew is the head consultant and he has helped international, national and local charities including providing support to the Arun Neighbourhood Network.  His main experience is in raising funds from charitable trusts and foundations but he also has vast experience in raising funds from the statutory sector, the Lottery, companies, through church groups, from the public, events and European funding.

Shirley has a background of practical experience gained from working with a variety of Shirley Illsleycharities local, regional and national. She has successfully generated funds for both capital projects and revenue income using her skills working with community fundraising, trusts, retail and direct mail. Her key areas of expertise include donor development and database management.

Andrew and Shirley will be able to give you advice on the following:
• How to put together a fundraising strategy
• Researching funding opportunities
• How to put an application together (including 'hands-on help')
• How to budget and plan
• How to keep fundraising records

Andrew will also be providing a number of one-day fundraising training workshops for groups. Examples of current workshops are:

• An introduction to fundraising focusing on: An overview of the charity and voluntary sector; grants and contracts from the statutory sector; raising funds from charitable trusts; developing relationships and raising funds from companies; getting the public on board; and events.
• How to write applications to funders:  this is aimed at helping community groups with their bid writing and will focus on the following: what to write; how to say it; and conciseness. It will also feature a session on completing an actual application form and writing your own appeal.

Recent fundraising success stories

An example of successful partnership working with ChOPP has enabled the Crinoline Sequence Dance Club (for the over 50s) to gain funding from the Age Concern 'Fit as a Fiddle' fund.  This has provided half price sessions for a period of eight weeks to existing and new members, as well as publicity support, to encourage a growth in new membership.  The club, which has been in existence for more than 50 years, enables older people to enjoy this regular activity tailored to individual fitness and capabilities. It also provides a warm and friendly social environment, with some current members attending since the 1970s.

Another fundraising success for ChOPP has enabled SAGE to obtain a Grassroots grant of £4800 for their Senior Age Counselling Service.  This is a counselling service for older people and those with limited mobility who are faced with access difficulties to normal office-based services.  SAGE is led and run by volunteers and is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.  The Grassroots grant will enable SAGE to increase their service delivery to reach out to rural parishes supporting isolated older people with the changes experienced through loss of independence, bereavement, loneliness, illness and disability, amongst other things.
