Caring with Confidence programmes start in Chichester and Bognor Regis
The Carers Support Service Regis, Chichester and Rural are pleased to announce that the Experts Patients Programme is now able to offer carers a free and flexible self care programme for carers.
Caring with Confidence is a free programme which helps carers aged 18 and over build on their own strengths, share experiences and gain useful information, ideas and tips about looking after someone to help them decide how to make positive changes to their caring role.
Carers can choose how many of the seven sessions in the programme to get involved with depending on their own caring situation and needs, and all are encouraged to attend the introductory session – Finding Your Way. This session helps carers look at what matters to them and decide which of the other six sessions they might want to do.
Each session is three hours long and will take place either in the morning or the afternoon. The topics covered include: health and wellbeing, coping, resources, emergencies at home, taking time out and communicating effectively with professionals and service providers.
Sessions will be held on Wednesday afternoons in Chichester during July and August, and Tuesday afternoons in Bognor Regis throughout October and November.
Ann Hogben became a Carer 3 years ago and attended a course earlier this year:
'During one of the workshops, we were coming back from a break and we were all laughing, and I thought 'Wow, I haven’t done this for a while'. I listened to other people’s stories; some were caring for 3 people and one was caring for a daughter who had been born blind and deaf. I felt guilty because my husband was moving on a bit and getting better. But they said to me 'We don’t do guilt here – we all have our problems and we all help each other to move on.' I realised that I deserved to be there. It was all carers together. I hadn’t really seen myself as a carer before. The course made me feel like I’d been let out of prison for a couple of hours.'
